You Don’t Have to Watch

By

Some dude on BlueSky is, like, you must watch the inauguration because you’re supposed to watch everything, all the good and bad parts of history, you’re supposed to bear witness, blah blah.

Absolutely not. Get fucked my dude.

I phonebanked. I wrote postcards. I donated a lot of money. I tried to convince, did a lot of GOTV.

I knew what was coming, what is coming, and I tried to stop it.

Lots of Americans chose to stay home instead of vote, and a few more voted for the dumb dude than the qualified lady because they did not have the imagination or the memory to see what was coming next.

That does not mean that I have to watch the anointment.

Of course, I have to stay vigilant. I have to know what the fuck is up. I’m trying to mitigate damage to my students and my community, as much as I can as a person in my role. I can’t do that by putting my head in the sand.

But I do not—do fucking not—have to tune into the inauguration to know what’s next, to understand the moment we’re in.

We’ve already been told what’s next. We’ve already seen what’s next—cheap eggs wasn’t the only memorable thing about 2017-2020 for fuck’s sake.
